In 1974 Rebecca (Becky) Kern received her Bachelors degree in physical therapy from the University of California in San Francisco. Four years prior to that she received a Bachelors degree in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and taught 6, 7, and 8th grade Science in a middle school in Ohio. After graduating from UCSF, she worked for a year in San Francisco and then moved to Connecticut where she taught clinical physical therapy at Quinnipiac College for one year. She returned to California to have two children and proceed to work at LA County/ USC Medical Center as a Supervisor in Outpatient physical therapy. After two years she took a position at the University of California, Los Angeles as Director of Outpatient Services where she stayed for five years before starting her own private practice in 1985. Kern and Associates was started as a visionary clinic where patients with even the most resilient musculoskeletal disorders could come and be helped.

Becky herself has special interests in orthopedics. In 1995 she passed the state board examination to become an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. In 2005, she was re-certified. In 2002 she received her Masters Degree in Science from USC. Two years later she completed her doctorate and now is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Her first love is treating patients and making sure that all patients have a good experience at Kern & Associates. In 2004 Kern and Associates became the first site off the USC Campus to take a physical therapy resident.

Becky has been breast cancer survivor for 10 years and is very interested in helping other breast cancer survivors with movement dysfunctions that result from surgery and reconstruction. With the help of Nora Barziv, she also works with patients who have lymphedema as a result of breast cancer. She has been married for 30 years to Jack who is a professor of Pharmacy at USC. Their two daughters (Sarah and Stephanie) graduated from USC. Her hobbies include hiking, traveling and playing with her two Labrador Retriever puppies.
